Monday 4 October 2010

I have decided to have a beading competition!

BEADING COMPETITION!

I was thinking about beading something with baby blue, pink and cream beads - and then I had the idea for a competition. At the bottom of this piece is the link to my facebook "Rosebudlia Cabochons" page.  All you have to do is click "like" at the top of the page (this way I have your name so when I announce the winner and it's you, you get notified via facebook).

What do you have to do?  Well, it's simple pimple, bead something beautifully in pink, blue and cream seed beads.  You might want to beadweave a necklace, or make a bracelet using a cabochon ... you might even want to make a little trinket box to hold your favourite ring, or an amulet, or  ......  as long as your item is beaded with the three colours and seed beads are the main beads used, you could be a winner!

So what is the prize? I sell cabochons so I have gadzillions of the little beauties.  I will send the winner, 50, yes FIFTY cabochons of assorted sizes.  I promise you, they will be beautiful!

How is the competition judged?  I am in two minds.  I was thinking of letting my dog randomly choose the winner (all names will be on pieces of paper on the floor) or I might get my friend and neighbour Theresa to put her hand in a box full of names.

How do you know this is genuine? I will film the event and will post it here and on my facebook page.

How long have you got?  The winner will be chosen on November 4th so you have a month (at the time of writing this) to complete your chosen piece.

How do you present your finished piece?  Post you picture(s) on the Rosebudlia Cabochons facebook page and with it say BEADING COMPETITION and then add your name.  I will have to be able to contact you (if you win) for your home address so make sure you keep an eye open for emails from me and to keep looking on the Rosebudlia Cabochons page.

As an additional thank you for entering the competition, I would like to take all of your pictures and add them to my site http://www.rosebudlia.co.uk/  with a link BACK TO YOUR SITE! Therefore, please make sure that when you post your pictures on my rosebudlia cabochons facebook page, your picture has your name on it (or business name) and when you write your comments accompanying your picture, don't forget to let me know the web address to link back to. Thank you!

Good Luck!!!

Please contact me via my website http://www.rosebudlia.co.uk/ if you have any questions.

Thank goodness for my 15 year old neighbour!!

Last night I was attempting to get my head round what was to me, a complicated beading stitch which was a brick stitch with a bit added.  Could I do it?  No I could not.  I had been trying do to this for the past week but last night I lost the plot and so I took everything over to my friend's house and I showed the instructions (in a book) to her son.  Joshua is 15 and can do anything with computers and mobile phones so it seemed logical to me that he would solve my problem.  And he did.  We were kneeling together on the floor and I was following his hands as he stitched each bead to the other. (I'm 56 and I got stuck there on the floor with joint stiffness but a few more evening promrose pills and I'll be right as rain in no time lol).

As soon as I see somebody do something I understand the procedure - but to follow instructions from a book is quite impossible. It reminded me of my childhood when my parents would moan in frustration because I couldn't do a homework project. Why couldn't they see I was a visual follower and not a brainiac?

Anyway, I have now learned the procedure and all being well and my memory doesn't fail me, I will make a necklace and bracelet set - and I'll be a proud as Punch that I did!  Thank you Joshua for helping this old bird lol! xxx

Gothic Beaded Fabulousness! A Competition from The Netherlands.

I have customers in The Netherlands and they buy cabochons from me.  One day I was contacted by Roos and Trudy from a beading forum and I was asked if I would donate some cabochons for their latest beading competition - the theme being "Gothic".  Today Trudy, whose own website is  http://www.blackcrowjewelry.nl/ sent me the link to the contestant's finished pieces.  Do have a look, the jewellery is without doubt, totally stunning!  http://home.kpn.nl/indianen/gothiccontest.html

Rosebudlia Cabochons and the Internet Beading Celebrities

I eat, sleep, breathe and wee cabochons, and, I sell them too. I also make jewellery using cabochons because beading generally and beading around cabochons is a form of jewellery making which is constantly evolving.  I am always amazed when I see the works of the world's top bead artists - so much so I have started up a section on my website where I feature just a few of these highly gifted people. You can read what they have to say and see examples of their work HERE.

If you are serious about your jewellery making, please take the time to look.  You will be inspired ....

new cabochons listed on ebay US

I have been listing more cabochons on ebay US.  I don't bother on ebay UK because so few people in the UK buy cabs these days.  However, the exposure once on ebay US makes my listing worthwhile.  Here are some of the cabs I sell and if you bead round cabochons, you won't want to miss taking a peek. I sell them on my own site too obviously ... but anyway, here are some pictures ...

Oh, I also sell setting to fir so if you need 18mm and 20mm settings, just contact me on srose63911@aol.com or go through my website http://www.rosebudlia.co.uk/
Toodles for now, Sue xx

Tuesday 2 March 2010

I have just driven to Sainsbury's in my nightie and dressing gown so that my daughter can have some Hagen Daz ice cream.  (She went in the shop may I add, I was just the taxi service).  All advertising aside, it was worth the trip. She had vanilla and I had the cookies and cream. Mmmmmmm!!
Then I saw this online ... just click on THIS
Again, Mmmmmmmmm ..............

I have been playing with my beadcaps ...

I can't stop. I am addicted to jewellery making. Help!
I have made 2 pairs of earrigns which are just fabulous in the flesh ... sadly though a picture just doesn't do them justice.

They are for sale of course on my site, http://www.rosebudlia.co.uk/

If you have a favourite colour, just let me know and I will accommodate your desires in earring form!  Oh, and they are just £9.99 a pair!
here is a direct link if you fancy having a look.

Wednesday 3 February 2010

I listed these turquoise howlite donuts on my site recently and every time I see them in my stock room, I just have to touch them.  What a fabulous colour!  They are cold to the skin too so if you are hot I wonder if they will cool you down if you placed them on your wrists ....
Just a random thought ...

Thursday 14 January 2010

Thaw at last ...?

Hopefully it is thawing because I am now starting to find that slipping on the snow and ice isn't as muh fun as when I was 6 ....

I'm making a beaded bracelet for someone and I have decided to add the style to my etsy shop and also to my own website.  Sadly, I believe that no one from the UK will buy because intricate beaded designs don't seem to sell well here. The UK is more a Claires Accessories, an Argos, and A Marks and Spencer kind of buyer.  Yes, there are those who love originality but these lovely people seem to be in the minority.  Why doesn't the British jewellery wearer like to be bold like they are in Europe, the US, Canada?  I really would love an answer too.  If you are a unique jewellery designer here in the UK, I bet you sell really well if it's sterling silver ... but would you sell as much if you beaded round cabochons or sewed beads one by one with a fine thread? Let me know ....
